Toa Payoh is one of Singapore's oldest and most historically important public-housing towns. HDB began construction of Toa Payoh Town in 1965, making it the first town planned and designed entirely by HDB around the neighbourhood concept. The first residents moved into Toa Payoh flats in 1966. Today the mature Central Region town combines established HDB neighbourhoods, town-centre retail, the HDB Hub headquarters, schools, sports and community facilities, hawker centres, Toa Payoh Town Park and the well-known 1979 Dragon Playground. Toa Payoh MRT NS19 and Braddell NS18 provide East-Central North-South Line access, while Caldecott CC17/TE9 serves the southern side of the wider planning area. A major Toa Payoh Integrated Development is under construction and is expected to be completed by 2030.
