Required Registration Documents
To enroll your child in a Canadian public school board, you must present physical copies of the following documents:
- Parent's Valid Work/Study PermitOriginal paper permit showing duration and conditions.
- Child's Passport & Visitor Record/Study PermitChild's physical entry document showing legal stay in Canada.
- Child's Birth CertificateTo verify parent-child relationship (translated to English or French).
- Signed Residential Lease AgreementTo confirm you reside in the school board's catchment district.
- Recent Utility Bill (Hydro / Gas)CRA tax statement, hydro, gas, or residential internet bill to verify occupancy.
- Immunization Record (Yellow Book / PDF)Must be uploaded and reported to the local public health unit (e.g. Toronto Public Health).
- Parent's Letter of Employment / EnrollmentLetter from employer confirming full-time work, or university letter confirming full-time student status.
Provincial Rules
Ontario:
Immediate free tuition if the parent holds a valid work permit of 6+ months and works full-time.
British Columbia:
Requires parent's permit to be valid for 1+ year (or 6+ months with active employment contract) to waive fees.
Quebec:
Minor children of work/study permit holders attend French public school for free. English enrollment requires an exemption cert.
