Super Visa Income Requirements Chart
The official 2026 Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) thresholds and new co-signing rules for sponsoring parents.
IRCC has introduced two major updates to ease calculations:
1. **Either Year Option:** You can satisfy the MNI threshold using your income from **either of the two most recent tax years** preceding the application date (instead of only the single most recent year).
2. **Visitor Income Addition:** If the host meets a required minimum percentage of the threshold, the **visiting parent/grandparent's income** can be added to the calculation to bridge the remaining shortfall.
Official 2026 MNI Income Chart (LICO)
The income requirements are based on the total family size in Canada, including the sponsor (host), their spouse and dependent children, and the visiting parent(s) or grandparent(s):
| Family Unit Size | Minimum Necessary Income (CAD) | Monthly Equivalent (Reference) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Person (Sponsor only + 0 guests) | $30,526 | $2,544 |
| 2 People (Host + 1 parent guest) | $38,002 | $3,167 |
| 3 People (Host + spouse + 1 parent guest) | $46,720 | $3,893 |
| 4 People (Host + spouse + child + 1 parent guest) | $56,724 | $4,727 |
| 5 People (Host family of 3 + 2 parent guests) | $64,336 | $5,361 |
| 6 People (Host family of 4 + 2 parent guests) | $72,560 | $6,047 |
| 7 People (Host family of 5 + 2 parent guests) | $80,784 | $6,732 |
| For each additional person | +$8,224 | +$685 |
What Income Documents Are Accepted?
To prove you meet the threshold, you must submit one of the following official documents:
- Notice of Assessment (NOA): The most preferred document, issued by the CRA after you file your tax return.
- T4 or T1 Statements: T4 slips showing employment earnings, or T1 General tax return schedules.
- Employment Letter: A signed letter on company letterhead indicating your job title, role, salary, and length of employment, accompanied by recent pay stubs.
- Self-Employment: An accountant's letter or corporate financial statements proving net business income.
How to Calculate Your Family Size
To avoid under-calculating your income requirement, check the family count:
- The Sponsor: Counts as 1.
- Sponsor's Household: Include your spouse (or common-law partner) and any dependent children.
- The Applicants: Include the parents or grandparents you are sponsoring. Even if they are traveling separately, if they are covered by the invitation, they must be included in the count.
