Statutory Overview & Academic Framework
Admission to Singapore's Autonomous Universities is competitive, but there is no single national 'cut-off' for IB, CBSE, SAT or A-Level applicants. Each university sets its own qualification-specific minimum requirements, programme prerequisites, application dates and selection process. The principal universities covered here are NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD, but applicants should not assume that one institution's rules apply to another. NUS's AY2026/27 international-qualification application period was 3 December 2025 to 23 February 2026, and NUS requires applicants to have completed or be completing high school with at least 12 years of general education by July in the application year. For Indian Standard 12 applicants under NUS's current foreign-applicant route, CBSE and ISC applicants need a good pass in five subjects including English; NUS states that SAT/ACT/AP and a separate English test are not required for that route. NTU's current India Standard 12 route requires at least 90% in all subjects including English, excluding specified technical/other subjects, while its English-test requirements depend on the applicant's schooling medium and the accepted test. IB requirements are also institution-specific: NUS accepts actual or predicted IB results depending on examination session and assesses applicants holistically against programme prerequisites; NTU requires a very good combination of 5s, 6s and 7s and states that actual IB results are used for admission decisions, while SUTD explicitly states that it does not have a minimum IB score and instead uses comprehensive review. SMU also uses a selective, holistic and aptitude-based approach and does not publish a universal IB cut-off. Standardised tests are qualification-dependent rather than universally required: NUS requires SAT/ACT/AP for certain 'Other High School Qualifications' and for the American High School Diploma route, while its CBSE/ISC route does not require them; NTU likewise varies requirements by qualification. The Singapore-Cambridge A-Level system also changed for AY2026/27: NUS's published Indicative Grade Profile notes that applicants presenting the new A-Level results will have the University Admission Score (UAS) computation adjusted, with the H1 content subject no longer included by default and the three H2 grades being the main reference point in the published IGP. NUS and SMU publish indicative/representative grade profiles for A-Level and other larger applicant pools, but these are historical competitive indicators, not guaranteed future cut-offs. Aptitude-Based Admissions (ABA) is also not a separate universal quota of 15% of intake. NUS and NTU incorporate aptitude-based assessment into their admissions processes for eligible applicants, while SMU explicitly describes its admissions as holistic and aptitude-based. Programme prerequisites remain critical: examples include subject requirements for Computing, Engineering, Medicine, Law, Design and other selective programmes. Predicted IB results can be used in some university processes, but the exact rule differs: NUS accepts predicted results for May-session IB applicants and requires actual results later, SMU accepts school-certified predicted results for May 2026 applicants, while NTU's published IB guidance states that admission decisions are based on actual IB results and does not make provisional offers based on preliminary results. There is therefore no safe universal SAT score, IB score, CBSE percentage, English-test threshold or application month that guarantees admission across Singapore universities.

Qualification-Specific Admissions Routes (A-Levels, IB, India, US)
The Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level route is primarily relevant to applicants with Singapore A-Levels and is assessed using the university's own admissions rules.
For admission from AY2026/27, NUS states that applicants presenting 2025 Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level results will no longer have the H1 content subject grade included in the University Admission Score by default. NUS's IGP uses the three H2 subject grades as the main indication of programme competitiveness.
NUS publishes representative grade profiles for the 10th and 90th percentiles of A-Level applicants offered places. These profiles are historical indicators and do not guarantee admission.
From the day A-Level results are released to 19 March 2026 for the published AY2026 exercise.
Aptitude-Based Admissions is available for applicants with exceptional talents or outstanding achievements, subject to minimum academic competence.
SMU assesses A-Level applicants selectively and holistically; its published Indicative Grade Profile is a competitive reference rather than a guaranteed threshold.
The original statement that A-Level admission is simply calculated from three H2, one H1, GP and PW into a universal score out of 90 was too simplistic and outdated for the AY2026/27 NUS UAS treatment.
There is no single IB score that guarantees admission across NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD.
NUS requires the International Baccalaureate Diploma and programme prerequisites; it does not publish a universal 38-point minimum for admission.
Applicants taking May 2026 IB examinations may apply using school-attested predicted results and must subsequently provide actual results under NUS's stated deadlines.
For IB applicants, English must be one of the subjects taken. A separate English test is required in the specific circumstances stated by NUS, such as where at least three IB subjects are taught in a non-English language.
Applicants must meet the prerequisites for the programme they choose.
A very good combination of 5s, 6s and 7s across the three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, together with good Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge grades.
NTU states that admission decisions are based on actual IB results and that it does not make provisional offers based on preliminary results.
Applicants sitting the coming May examination can apply under NTU's stated process, but the final IB results must be supplied after release and are used for admission decisions.
English requirements depend on the applicant's schooling circumstances and NTU's listed accepted evidence.
SMU accepts the IB Diploma and uses selective, competitive and holistic assessment.
For May 2026 IB examinations, predicted scores supplied by the applicant's teacher can be submitted by the stated deadline; self-declared predicted scores are not accepted.
SMU does not publish a separate IB indicative grade profile because its IB applicant pool is smaller; IB applicants are assessed through the same selective and holistic framework.
SUTD explicitly states that it does not have a minimum IB score for its International IB route.
SUTD recommends Higher Level Mathematics and at least one Higher Level Science subject such as Physics or Chemistry, while also considering other combinations.
SUTD uses comprehensive review of academic and personal attributes. Selected predicted-result applicants may be invited to a University Entrance Examination or conversation depending on the route.
The original universal '38 to 42+' IB cut-off and 40–43+ claim for specific programmes were removed because the universities do not publish one such universal requirement.
For Indian Standard 12 applicants using CBSE or ISC under NUS's foreign-applicant route, a good pass in five subjects including English is required.
SAT, ACT and AP are not required for this CBSE/ISC route.
A separate English test is not required under the current CBSE/ISC foreign-applicant route.

The original 90%–95% universal CBSE/ISC cut-off was unsupported for NUS. NUS's published minimum is a good pass in five subjects including English.
At least 90% in all subjects including English, excluding the other languages and specified technical subjects such as Home Science, Art and Fashion Design.
JEE-Main is not required and NTU says it will not enhance the chances of admission. A good JEE-Advanced ranking is valued, where relevant.
Where English was not the medium of study or was taken as an additional language, NTU accepts specified English evidence such as IGCSE O-Level English, IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, PTE Academic, ACT with Writing or C1 Advanced, subject to the current score requirements.
A 90% threshold can be accurately stated for NTU's India Standard 12 minimum-to-apply rule, but it must not be presented as a universal Singapore-university cut-off.
Indian State Board and other Indian qualification routes can have different requirements from CBSE/ISC. Applicants must select the correct qualification category.
NUS requires an American High School Diploma together with standardised test scores under its current international-qualification route.
A separate English requirement is not stated for this route.
Applicants who have taken 2026 AP tests must submit AP score reports by the NUS deadline.
SAT or ACT requirements depend on the qualification route. It is incorrect to state that SAT 1450+ is universally required for all Singapore university applicants.
NUS and other universities publish country- and qualification-specific requirements. Applicants should not use a generic international-student formula.

Aptitude-Based Admissions (ABA) Framework
Aptitude-Based Admissions (ABA) is a holistic admissions mechanism used by several Singapore universities. It does not replace the need to meet minimum academic competence.
NUS considers academic merit together with non-academic achievements and additional interviews/tests where required. Its current IGP explicitly notes that the disclosed grade profiles include offers made under ABA.
NTU allows applicants with exceptional talents or outstanding achievements beyond ordinary school CCA participation to be considered under ABA, subject to minimum academic competence.
SMU explicitly describes its undergraduate admissions as holistic and aptitude-based, considering leadership, community service, awards, internships/work experience, intellectual curiosity, communication skills and other relevant evidence.
SUTD uses comprehensive review and personal insight/achievement evidence rather than a single score-only formula.
The original claim that 'up to 15% of intake is reserved for ABA' was removed because no current universal 15% quota applies across these universities.
Predicted Results Policies & Acceptance Rules
NUS accepts predicted IB results for specified May-session IB applicants, provided they are attested by the school and followed by actual-result submission under the university's deadlines.
SMU accepts teacher-submitted predicted IB scores for May 2026 applicants by its published deadline.
NTU's IB guidance states that admission decisions are made using actual IB results and that provisional offers are not made on preliminary results.
SUTD can use predicted results for specified international IB routes and may invite selected applicants to an additional assessment.
The original page treated predicted IB grades as universally acceptable under one rule. The correct approach is university- and qualification-specific.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
English-language testing is not universally mandatory for all international applicants.

Application dates differ by qualification; for example, Singapore A-Level applicants use the period from A-Level result release to 19 March 2026, while local polytechnic diploma applicants had a separate 1 February to 14 May 2026 route.
There is no single October-to-March application window covering every applicant and university.

Indicative Grade Profiles (IGP) & Competitive Benchmarks
Indicative Grade Profiles (IGPs) show the grades or GPAs of a selected percentile range of applicants who were offered places in a previous admissions exercise.
NUS publishes 10th and 90th percentile representative profiles for A-Level and polytechnic applicants.
NUS explicitly states that previous grade/GPA profiles can vary by year and meeting a prior-year profile does not guarantee admission in the current year.
NUS does not present a universal public IB cut-off equivalent to '38 points'.
SMU publishes representative A-Level and polytechnic grade profiles. It does not publish separate IB grade profiles because the IB applicant pool is smaller.
SMU states that IB applicants are assessed selectively and holistically.
