Western Singapore is undergoing major redevelopment through several complementary districts and infrastructure projects. Jurong Lake District (JLD) covers more than 410 hectares and is being developed as Singapore's largest mixed-use business district outside the city centre, with more than 100,000 new jobs and 20,000 new homes planned when fully developed. Jurong Innovation District (JID) is a separate 600-hectare next-generation industrial estate developed by JTC for advanced manufacturing, research, innovation and capability development, with an expected 95,000 new jobs when fully completed. Jurong Lake Gardens forms the green heart of JLD, while Tuas Port is a separate major maritime project farther west. These projects are linked by Singapore's wider western transport and economic network but should not be treated as one administrative district or one single development project.

The Jurong Region Line is under construction. LTA's current 2026 schedule targets Stage 1 around mid-2028, Stage 2 in 2028 and Stage 3 in 2029. The completed main line is 24 km with 25 stations after the future JS2A infill station is included, and Jurong East JE5 will be one of its interchange stations.
