1. Executive Summary & Route Advantages
The Global Talent Visa is a UK immigration route for people aged 18 or over who are recognised as leaders or potential leaders in eligible fields including science, engineering, medicine, humanities, social sciences, digital technology, and arts and culture. The 2026 rules also include specific pathways for areas such as architecture, design, fashion design and film/television. Applicants can qualify through an endorsement or, where applicable, a listed prestigious prize.
2. Endorsing Body & ILR Pathway Comparison
The table below compares endorsement streams and ILR settlement timelines:
| Field / Sector | Designated Endorsing Body | Exceptional Talent ILR | Exceptional Promise ILR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digital Technology | Tech Nation | 3 Years if endorsed under Exceptional Talent | 5 Years if endorsed under Exceptional Promise |
| Science, Engineering, Humanities & Medicine | Relevant Home Office-approved body / UKRI route | 3 Years for qualifying endorsements | Depends on the applicable endorsement route |
| Arts & Culture | Arts Council England / associated body | 3 Years if endorsed under Exceptional Talent | 5 Years if endorsed under Exceptional Promise |
| Design / Architecture / Fashion / Other current fields | Relevant current Home Office-approved endorsing body or associated pathway | Depends on the applicable current route | Depends on the applicable current route |
| Prestigious Prize | No endorsement required if the prize is on the current qualifying list | 3 Years to ILR | Not applicable |
3. Tech Nation Endorsement Criteria (Exceptional Talent vs Promise)
For the digital-technology endorsement route, the current GOV.UK process requires a CV, 3 letters of recommendation and evidence meeting the relevant criteria. Applicants can provide up to 10 supporting evidence documents: at least 2 should demonstrate that they are recognised as a leading or potential talent, and at least 4 should demonstrate two of the other required skills. Evidence can include recognised open-source contributions, technical or commercial achievements, prestigious speaking or awards and other sector-recognised evidence.
4. Stage 1 (Endorsement) vs Stage 2 (Visa Application)
Most applicants use a two-stage process. Stage 1 is the endorsement application, currently £561. Stage 2 is the Global Talent visa application, currently £205 when an endorsement is required, giving a combined £766 application fee, plus the applicable Immigration Health Surcharge. Applicants who qualify through a listed prestigious prize bypass the endorsement stage and pay the £766 visa fee at Stage 2.
