Salik toll pricing is time-dependent. The calculator below therefore uses the number of chargeable crossings and the selected pricing period rather than a generic “average trip” assumption.
What Is Salik?
Salik is Dubai’s barrier-free electronic road-toll system. Vehicles do not stop at a conventional toll booth. An activated Salik tag on the vehicle windscreen is detected when the vehicle passes a Salik toll location and the applicable charge is deducted from the user’s Salik account.
The system also uses cameras and vehicle-identification technology to identify vehicles where the RFID tag or account-registration process does not work correctly.
Salik PJSC operates the toll system under its concession arrangement with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. Salik’s 2025 annual report currently shows 10 toll gates, not the eight-gate network used in older guides.

Account & Balance Rules
- An insufficient-balance trip can temporarily create a shortfall in the account.
- The current terms provide five working days to recharge the account.
- The five-working-day period excludes Saturdays, Sundays and applicable declared public-sector holidays.
- If the shortfall is not resolved within the grace period, an AED 50 insufficient-funds violation applies.
- A Salik account becomes inactive after five years with no toll/payment or recharge activity.
- An inactive account can forfeit its remaining balance under the current terms.

The unregistered-plate violation category has a maximum of one violation per day per vehicle under the published regime.
Salik Exemptions & Special Cases
Salik is not simply a universal charge on every vehicle. Certain vehicle categories are exempt under the applicable Dubai toll regulations.
Important Multi-Gate Charging Rule
Salik has a specific rule for the Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South gates: when a vehicle passes both gates in the same direction within one hour, it is charged only once. Parents, visitors and commuters should therefore not assume that every physical gate crossing always produces a separate toll.
