UAE Parking System Overview
Parking is administered separately by each emirate. Dubai public parking is operated through Parkin under the Dubai parking framework; Abu Dhabi uses MAWAQiF under Abu Dhabi Mobility; and Sharjah Municipality manages its public parking services.
Zone letters, colours, rates, operating hours, maximum stays and payment methods are therefore not interchangeable between emirates.

Dubai Parking: Standard vs. Premium Tariffs
Dubai's current system is no longer adequately represented by a simple “A = AED 4, B = AED 3, C = AED 2” table. Existing standard zone codes A, B, C and D remain, but Dubai also has premium P zones and variable peak/off-peak tariffs.

Parkin states that A, B, C and D remain standard zone codes and P is used for designated premium parking. Exact peak/off-peak/event tariffs are displayed on signs and through Parkin channels.

Sharjah Parking & SMS Service
Sharjah's public parking system should not be represented using Dubai's A/B/C zones or the old SMS number 7275. Sharjah Municipality currently operates its own SMS Parking service using 5566.

Sharjah Municipality states that the service is available for private plates from the seven UAE emirates, with registration requirements for certain non-private and GCC plate users.
Free Parking Rules
- DubaiPublic parking is generally free on Sundays and official public holidays. Regular paid hours are generally 8:00am–10:00pm.
- Abu DhabiMAWAQiF public parking is free on Sundays and official public holidays.
- SharjahDo not publish one emirate-wide “free Friday” rule. Follow the current sign, parking zone and Sharjah Municipality instructions for the specific location.
Parking Pro Tips
- Read the sign at the exact parking bay before paying.
- Use the current zone code shown on the sign or machine; do not infer it from a neighbourhood name.
- Check whether you are in a standard or premium Dubai zone.
- Check maximum-stay limits before leaving the vehicle.
- Never use a People of Determination space unless you have the required permit.
- Do not rely on old Friday/Sunday schedules copied from older parking guides.
- Keep the SMS confirmation or digital parking receipt until the session ends.
- For Sharjah SMS parking, use the current 5566 service and official format.
Resident Parking
Resident permits are separate from ordinary public parking sessions. Abu Dhabi MAWAQiF explicitly provides resident parking spaces within the standard parking system and limits their use by non-permit holders during resident-only hours. Dubai and Sharjah also have location-specific residential permit schemes.
Enforcement, Fines and Impoundment
Parking fines are violation-specific and authority-specific. Dubai Parkin's published information includes AED 150 for non-payment, AED 100 for ticket expiry, AED 200 for pavement/no-parking violations and AED 1,000 for certain permit violations.
Abu Dhabi's MAWAQiF system additionally has vehicle impoundment charges where a vehicle is seized: AED 500 towing/transport plus AED 100 per day for the first month and AED 500 per month thereafter under the current published impound tariff.
Do not assume a Dubai fine amount applies in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. Check the violation record and the issuing authority for the exact fine.
