UK-India Migration & Mobility Partnership (MMP)
The UK-India Young Professionals Scheme was created pursuant to the bilateral Migration and Mobility Partnership Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of the United Kingdom and the Government of the Republic of India on 4 May 2021.
Codified in the Home Office rules under Appendix Youth Mobility Scheme, it grants successful ballot candidates a 2-year entry clearance visa permitting full-time employment, self-employment (subject to restrictions), or study without requiring an employer Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

Work Rights & In-Country Visa Switching (Appendix Skilled Worker)
Permitted Activities & Work Rights
- Unrestricted Employment: Work in almost any sector or role without minimum salary floors.
- Self-Employment Restrictions: Self-employment is permitted provided you do not own business premises, have no employees, and your equipment value does not exceed £5,000.
- Prohibited Activities: Cannot work as a professional sportsperson or sports coach.
Switching to Skilled Worker & ILR
- In-Country Switching: Before your 2-year YPS visa expires, you can switch directly into a **Skilled Worker visa** from within the UK if an employer sponsors you.
- Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR): YPS time does not count toward 5-year ILR directly, but switching to Skilled Worker starts your 5-year settlement clock.
- No Extension: The YPS visa cannot be extended beyond 24 months.
