Use only the payment method, payee name and payment instructions specified by the issuing government's official embassy, consulate or authorized service provider for the particular application.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The current Colombian fee for passports issued abroad in the 'rest of world' zone, which includes the United States, is $86.00 USD for an ordinary electronic passport (32 pages) and $175.00 USD for an executive electronic passport (48 pages). The emergency machine-readable passport fee is $129.00 USD.

Cancillería currently publishes approximately 8 business days for passport delivery through Colombian consulates abroad. Actual timing can vary because of international transportation, local operating conditions and exceptional circumstances. Same-day or 48-hour delivery should not be advertised as the standard U.S. consular timeline.

Normally no for the standard in-person process. Cancillería states that the photograph is taken during the formalization of the application, together with the required biometric information. Follow the specific consulate's instructions if it announces an exceptional procedure.

Some adults qualify for the restricted online-passport service, but it is not available to everyone. The current rules require the applicant to be at least 18, hold an ordinary or executive electronic passport issued on or after November 17, 2017, and have successfully completed biometric authentication when the previous passport was issued. The specific reason for requesting the new passport must also fall within an authorized category.

Normally you should have the original cédula or an eligible alternative. However, the current 2026 rules provide that for procedures carried out at Colombian consulates or embassies, the physical cédula is not required when the citizen has an issued passport registered in SITAC, subject to the applicable conditions. The consulate can still request additional identity evidence.

You must report the loss or theft to the issuing authority under oath. The lost or stolen passport is then cancelled and is no longer valid. You proceed with the applicable passport replacement process rather than treating it as an ordinary renewal. A foreign police report is not universally specified as a Colombian passport requirement, although an individual consulate may provide additional instructions.
