Note on Terminology: For an eligible adult, the Australian Passport Office uses the one-page PC7 Australian Passport Renewal Application. Applicants who do not qualify for PC7 generally use the five-page PC8 Application for an Australian Passport Overseas. PC7 is the simplified renewal route and can be lodged by mail or in person.

Critical Consular Guidelines & Warnings
- Current adult 10-year fee (effective Sept 1, 2026) is A$611 total (A$422 passport + A$189 overseas surcharge) or US$430 — old A$325+A$150 figures are outdated.
- Eligible PC7 adults can renew 100% BY MAIL without an in-person consular interview or biometric appointment.
- A guarantor is NOT required for PC7 adult renewals — guarantors are only required for PC8 overseas applications.
- Mail applications MUST be sent to the lodging consulate assigned to your state of residence (do not automatically send all mail to Washington, DC).
- Australian passport offices in the USA return passports by FedEx and DO NOT use the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). Prepaid UPS envelopes are not accepted by DC, NY, or Houston.
- Allow at least 6 weeks — there is no routine expedited service for ordinary regular passport applications lodged overseas.
Safe Filing Guidelines
Before submitting a physical passport, keep secure copies of your passport identification page, relevant U.S. immigration documents and any visa pages that you may need for your records.
Use only the payment method, payee name and payment instructions specified by the issuing government's official embassy, consulate or authorized service provider for the particular application.
