The small claims track is normally used for straightforward claims with a financial value of not more than £10,000.
Issue fees start at £35 for claims up to £300 and rise to £455 for claims up to £10,000. Claims from £10,001 to £200,000 are charged at 5% of the claim amount.
Hearing fees range from £27 (claims up to £300) to £346 (claims over £3,000 up to £10,000).
The defendant has 14 calendar days from deemed service (5 days after issue) to respond, or 28 days if an Acknowledgment of Service is filed.
Generally, no. Costs recovery on the small claims track (CPR 27.14) is strictly limited to court fees, fixed costs, and capped expenses.
