Step-by-Step Application Workflow
Sequential procedure from online government filing to passport collection
Check your NIN and passport details
Before starting the renewal, verify that your NIN details match the name and other identity information on your Nigerian passport. The Nigeria High Commission specifically states that the NIN must match the passport details in the correct order.
Complete the official NIS passport application
Use the official Nigeria Immigration Service passport application system to select renewal/reissue, enter your details, upload the documents requested by the application and choose the applicable passport booklet. The current NIS system covers expired and unexpired passport renewal/reissue.
Pay the passport fee and book biometrics
Pay the applicable diaspora passport fee shown by the official NIS process, then book the biometric enrolment appointment at the selected processing location. Nigerians living abroad are directed to submit through the nearest Nigerian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.
Attend the biometric appointment
Attend in person with the old passport booklet and your printed payment and appointment documents. The NIS process requires passport applicants to appear for photograph and biometric data capture. The London High Commission also requires the required NIN and supporting documents.
Pay the UK mission administrative charge
For services handled by the Nigeria High Commission in London, the Mission currently publishes a £20 administrative charge for consular services. Applicants should use the current payment instructions published by the Mission rather than relying on third-party fee amounts.
Wait for processing and passport return
The NIS 2026 service agreement lists re-issue at 21 days after successful enrolment as the service timeline. The London High Commission states that processed passports are returned by mail and that there is no physical collection after biometric capture for its standard service. Postal delivery can add additional time.
Track and check the returned passport
Keep your application, payment and appointment references until the new passport is received. Check the passport details immediately after delivery and keep the old passport according to the instructions of the High Commission, especially where it has been cancelled or reissued.

UKVI eVisa & Status Check
A UKVI share code is currently valid for 90 days. Keep your passport details up to date in your UKVI account and ensure your eVisa is linked to your new passport before international travel.
- For the normal UK passport-renewal service, applicants should follow the document list published by the Nigeria High Commission rather than assuming a UK eVisa or share code is always required.
- The current London passport requirements specifically refer to the applicant's NIN, current Nigerian passport, NIS appointment booking and applicable supporting documents.
- For lost or stolen passports, the High Commission may require evidence concerning the applicant's UK residence status, including a Home Office document where applicable.
