Step-by-Step Application Workflow

Sequential procedure from online government filing to passport collection

Step 1
Choose Embassy or VFS Route

First determine whether your application can be handled at a VFS Global External Service Centre. VFS can process a passport only when an ID card is also being issued or renewed, your personal details have not changed and you already have a passport or ID card. Passport-only applications and several special cases must be handled by the Lithuanian Embassy.

Step 2
Create or Sign Into MIGRIS for VFS Applications

Create a personal account in the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) using your email address. Complete the application using Lithuanian characters and select your preferred VFS External Service Centre.

Step 3
Submit the MIGRIS Application

After completing the electronic application, submit it through MIGRIS. You will receive an email confirming that you can proceed with the selected VFS Global centre.

Step 4
Book the VFS Appointment or Use Walk-In Hours

After MIGRIS confirmation, book an appointment through VFS. The current UK Embassy information also states that VFS centres may accept applicants without an appointment during specified walk-in hours, currently 08:30 to 12:30. Check the live VFS page before travelling.

Step 5
Prepare the Original Documents

Bring the original documents whose photographs or scans were uploaded to MIGRIS. VFS specifically instructs applicants to bring the originals. If your case requires an Embassy appointment instead, follow the Embassy-specific document list.

Step 6
Attend the Application Centre

Attend personally at the selected Embassy or VFS location. Identity verification and biometric data are collected as part of the document-issuance process.

Step 7
Pay the Applicable Fee

Pay the Lithuanian consular fee according to the current UK tariff. VFS applicants also pay the separate VFS service charge. The Embassy accepts debit or credit cards except American Express and Postal Orders; payment conditions at VFS are controlled by VFS.

Step 8
Passport Production

The application is processed through Lithuania's identity-document production system. The Embassy currently states that issuance or replacement takes about one month from the date of application for standard Embassy applications.

Step 9
Choose Collection or Postal Delivery

For Embassy applications, you can collect the passport at the Embassy or request postal delivery with a prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope up to 100 g. VFS applicants can collect the completed document at the selected VFS centre or request postal delivery using the required prepaid envelope.

Step 10
Activate a Document Received by Post

A passport or identity card delivered by post must be activated. When using the MIGRIS route, the document can be activated through the MIGRIS account after confirming receipt. The Embassy also provides an alternative notification procedure if electronic activation cannot be completed.

Step 11
Collect the Old Document / Present It When Required

The old passport or ID card normally does not need to be left with the Embassy during the application. When collecting the new document, the old passport or ID card should be presented if it was not lost.

Step 12
Update Your UKVI Account

After receiving the new Lithuanian passport or ID card, update your identity-document details in your UK Visas and Immigration account. The Lithuanian Embassy specifically instructs UK residents to do this after renewing a passport or ID card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Key questions on consular processing, appointments, and fees for Lithuania nationals in the UK

From 1 September 2026, the standard Lithuanian passport issuance or replacement fee in the UK is £120 (€140). The 50% reduced passport fee is £60 (€70) for children under 18 and persons who have reached retirement age. An ID card issued or replaced together with a passport has a separate £51 (€60) consular fee. If you apply through VFS, an additional VFS service charge applies.

Yes, but with an important restriction: VFS cannot process a passport-only application. You can apply for a passport through VFS only when you also apply for an ID card, your personal details have not changed and you already have a passport or ID card, even if the existing document has expired. VFS centres are currently available in London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

No universal UK immigration-status requirement is listed for ordinary Lithuanian passport renewal. The applicant must satisfy the Lithuanian identity and citizenship requirements. After the new passport or ID card is issued, however, the Lithuanian Embassy specifically tells UK residents to update their identity-document information in their UKVI account.

The Lithuanian Embassy's current guidance states that standard passport or ID-card issuance/replacement takes about one month from the date of application. Lost-document cases are also stated to take up to one month. Appointment availability and postal delivery are additional practical factors.

Yes. These cases are specifically handled by the Embassy. VFS does not accept personal-data changes such as a surname, first name, date of birth, place of birth, sex or personal identification number change, and it also does not accept applications where the only identity document has been lost. The Embassy can handle the loss notification and new-document application during the same appointment.

Normally, the old passport or ID card does not need to be left at the Embassy during the application. If a passport has expired but a valid ID card remains, the ID card should be presented; if the ID card has expired but the passport remains valid, the passport should be presented. When collecting the new document, the old document should be presented if it was not lost.
UKVI eVisa & Status Check

A UKVI share code is currently valid for 90 days. Keep your passport details up to date in your UKVI account and ensure your eVisa is linked to your new passport before international travel.

UK Status & Consular Requirements:
  • A UK visa, ILR or EUSS status is not a universal requirement for Lithuanian passport issuance or renewal.
  • Lithuanian citizens living in the UK can apply through the Embassy or eligible VFS External Service Centres regardless of whether their UK immigration status is an EUSS status, visa-based permission or another lawful status.
  • The Lithuanian Embassy does specifically require applicants to update their UKVI account after receiving a renewed passport or ID card.
