Step-by-Step Application Workflow

Sequential procedure from online government filing to passport collection

Step 1
Identify the correct passport category

Determine whether you are renewing an existing e-Passport, converting an old MRP or handwritten passport, replacing a lost/stolen passport, correcting personal information, applying for the first Bangladeshi passport, or applying as a Bangladeshi citizen by descent. The required documents and processing conditions differ between these categories.

Step 2
Check your NID or Birth Registration record

Before starting the online form, compare your NID or 17-digit online-verifiable English BRC with the existing passport. Names, date of birth, parents' names and other identity information should match. A mismatch can delay or prevent successful e-Passport processing and may require correction of the underlying Bangladeshi record before the passport application can proceed.

Step 3
Select the correct UK mission and jurisdiction

Choose the mission responsible for your UK residence. The Birmingham Assistant High Commission serves specified Midlands and South Wales areas. The Manchester Assistant High Commission serves North East and North West England, North Wales, the Isle of Man and Scotland. London has its own e-Passport submission process and requires the application to be submitted to the London mission when London is selected in the portal.

Step 4
Complete the e-Passport application online

Apply through epassport.gov.bd. Use the correct country, mission, permanent Bangladesh address and present UK address. London specifically warns applicants not to select Bangladesh as the application country or submit the application to a Bangladesh passport office by mistake. An active email address is required to create the online account.

Step 5
Download and print the application package

After submitting the online application, download the completed form and summary sheet containing the barcode, then print the appointment schedule. Bring the printed package and all required original documents to the appointment.

Step 6
Book the biometric appointment

The appointment is booked through the e-Passport portal after completing the online application. An appointment is mandatory. Do not travel to a mission without confirming the appointment because the current UK missions do not accept ordinary e-Passport submissions without prior booking.

Step 7
Attend the appointment for document checking

Bring the originals and copies requested by the mission. Officers compare the application against the existing passport and NID/BRC records. Additional documentation may be requested where there is a data mismatch, citizenship-by-descent issue, lost passport, marital-status change, profession change or other special circumstance.

Step 8
Complete biometrics

For adults and eligible children, the biometric process includes live photograph, fingerprints, iris capture and signature according to the mission procedure. London requires children and newborns to attend physically, even though children under 6 are exempt from biometric capture; those children must bring the required 3R lab-printed photograph. Manchester currently states that applicants over 6 must attend in person, while newborns and children under 6 are exempt from attendance and require the specified printed photograph.

Step 9
Pay the passport fee at the mission

Payment arrangements differ by mission. London currently does not provide online e-Passport payment; the fee is paid at the counter by credit or debit card, and cash and postal orders are not accepted. Birmingham currently states that payment is collected at submission by debit card and that online payment is not yet available.

Step 10
Receive the enrolment or delivery slip

After documents are scanned and biometrics are captured, the mission provides an enrolment or delivery slip. Keep it safely because it is required to check the application status and, where collection is used, to collect the completed passport.

Step 11
Track the e-Passport application

Use the official Bangladesh e-Passport application-status system with the information supplied during enrolment. The missions can also send email or SMS notifications when the passport is ready.

Step 12
Receive or collect the passport according to the mission

Delivery arrangements are not identical throughout the UK. London currently uses a collection procedure and permits an authorised person to collect only in a medical emergency with the required authorisation and Bangladeshi identity documents; parents must collect a child's passport. Birmingham permits collection in person, postal delivery using a prepaid Special Delivery envelope, or collection by an authorised representative under its stated rules. Manchester follows a home-delivery-by-post policy and asks applicants to provide a prepaid Special Delivery return envelope.

Frequently Asked Questions

Key questions on consular processing, appointments, and fees for Bangladesh nationals in the UK

The application itself is completed online, but the normal e-Passport process is not fully remote. After completing the online form, you must book an appointment and attend the responsible Bangladesh mission for document submission and biometric enrolment, subject to the child-specific attendance rules of that mission.

You need either a Bangladeshi NID or, where an NID has not been issued, a 17-digit signed Bangladeshi Birth Registration Certificate in English that is online-verifiable. The information must match the existing passport and the new application. A BRC should not be used without checking the online verification and the English data.

For general applicants, the current published UK fees include £96 for a 48-page 5-year regular passport, £118 for a 48-page 10-year regular passport, £145/£170 for 48-page 5/10-year express service, and London-published 64-page fees of £145/£167 regular and £195/£220 express. Full-time students have discounted 48-page fees of £30/£50 regular and £45/£75 express. Passport fees are non-refundable.

For the London mission's normal e-Passport route, an existing MRP or e-Passport must have less than one year of validity remaining. London also handles old handwritten passports, lost passports with the required evidence and other special categories. Because mission rules can differ for special cases, check the applicable mission before applying early.

London currently expects regular processing to take about 4–6 weeks when there is no mismatch among the application, previous passport and NID/BRC. Express processing is expected in about 21 days when no Bangladesh police verification is required and the data match. The High Commission explicitly states that these periods are estimates and are not guaranteed.

Yes, but you should apply through the mission responsible for your area. Birmingham currently serves specified Midlands and South Wales areas. Manchester serves North East and North West England, North Wales, the Isle of Man and Scotland. Their procedures also differ: for example, Manchester uses home delivery by post for completed passports, while Birmingham provides collection and postal-delivery options.

UK Status & Consular Requirements:
  • Proof of the applicant's UK address is part of the current mission document requirements. Examples published by the missions include council tax, HM Revenue & Customs correspondence, bank statements, utility bills, driving licences and university letters showing the UK address.
  • A UK eVisa or Share Code should not be treated as a universal substitute for the Bangladesh identity documents. The core passport identity evidence is the Bangladeshi NID or qualifying 17-digit online-verifiable English BRC plus the previous passport where applicable.
  • For lost-passport cases, the mission may require additional UK residence or Home Office evidence depending on the circumstances.
