Australian Passport Renewal in the UK 2026 (Australia House London)

The London adult mailed-renewal route is for applicants whose last passport was issued when they were at least 16, whose last passport expired in 2016 or later and was valid for at least 2 years, whose name, gender, date of birth and place of birth have not changed, and whose passport has not been lost, stolen, damaged or cancelled.

Use the official Australian Passport Office Application Portal and answer the questions for an adult passport renewal while overseas. The system generates the correct Adult Renewal Application Form.

Print the entire generated form. Sign and date the Applicant's Declaration with a black pen. The signature must remain completely inside the signature box and the date must be within the last 6 months. Do not use correction fluid or tape.

Use two identical Australian passport photos, not standard UK passport photos. The photos must be less than 6 months old and meet Australian biometric photo requirements. UK photo booths are not recommended by the London High Commission because their resolution may not meet Australian requirements. Write the applicant's full name on the back of one photo.

Print the Payment Authorisation Form. The London office accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express for mailed applications. Payment is processed in Australian dollars after the application is received and assessed. There is no online payment system for the mailed renewal route.

For a qualifying adult renewal by post, send only the completed Adult Renewal Application Form, at least two Australian-standard photos and the completed Payment Authorisation Form. Do not send the original passport or other original supporting documents unless the High Commission later specifically requests them.

Use an A4 envelope and send the application to Passport Office (adult renewal), Australian High Commission, Strand, London, WC2B 4LA. Use a tracked Royal Mail service and keep the tracking number. The High Commission says not to use a courier.

Allow at least 6 weeks from lodging the application to receiving the new passport. Processing begins when payment is successfully processed. The application status can be checked using the application number through the Australian Passport Office status tracker.

The new passport is sent to the UK residential address entered on the application. The London office uses Royal Mail Special Delivery for passport delivery.

Do not send the old passport with a mailed adult renewal. If it is still in date, the London High Commission states that you can continue to travel on it while the renewal is being processed. It is automatically cancelled in the system 30 days after the new passport is issued. Keep the old passport for your records.

When the new passport arrives, check your name, date of birth, place of birth, gender and passport number. If you hold visas, residence permissions or other travel records linked to the old passport, follow the relevant UK or foreign authority's instructions for updating the new passport details.
