UAE Visa Processing Times & Status Tracking
Learn how official UAE visa-service completion times work, which authority to use for tracking, and why a published service duration is not always the same as the total time from application to final residence status.
Based on current official ICP and GDRFA Dubai service-card information checked for 2026.
Processing time vs total visa journey
A government service card can publish a completion duration for one transaction, but an applicant’s complete journey can involve several linked transactions. For example, residence processing may involve a visa or entry permit, medical fitness, Emirates ID and residence-permit issuance.
The correct interpretation is therefore: published service duration ≠ guaranteed total end-to-end visa timeline.
Official service completion times
Current official examples at a glance
| Authority | Service | Published duration | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| ICP | Issuing Residency Permit | 2 days | Service-card completion duration for the residence-permit transaction. |
| ICP | Golden Residency Nomination Application | 2 days | Nomination-stage service duration; not a guarantee that the entire Golden Residence is finished in two days. |
| GDRFA Dubai | Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa | 48 hours | Expected completion time for that specific Dubai tourist service. |
| GDRFA Dubai | Relative/Friend Visit Visa | 48 hours | Expected completion time for that specific Dubai visit-visa service. |
Typical visa-processing stages
Which authority should you use to track the visa?
| Jurisdiction | Authority | Tracking service | Important point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi and other federal-emirate immigration cases | ICP | Use ICP Smart Services for application tracking and file-validity/visa services applicable to the case. | The exact tracking fields and available information depend on the service. |
| Dubai immigration cases | GDRFA Dubai | Use GDRFA Dubai’s online enquiry/tracking services for Dubai visa applications and validity checks. | Do not substitute an ICP result for a Dubai GDRFA immigration record. |
ICP tracking
- Open the official ICP Smart Services website or app.
- Select the relevant application-tracking or file-validity service.
- Enter the reference and identity information requested by that specific service.
- Review the status shown by ICP and retain the application reference if further support is needed.
GDRFA Dubai tracking
- Open the official GDRFA Dubai website or authorised service channel.
- Choose the relevant application-status or visa-validity enquiry.
- Enter the transaction/application/reference information requested by the system.
- Use the official enquiry/support channel if the application remains unresolved beyond the published service period.

Why a visa can take longer than the published service time
Missing or inconsistent documents
An application may remain pending until the authority or sponsor provides corrected or additional information.
Additional government checks
Some applications require additional eligibility, identity or security review that is not reflected in a generic processing-time estimate.
Different service stages
A visa entry permit, medical test, Emirates ID application and residence issuance can be separate services rather than one transaction.
Sponsor / employer action
Employment and family cases can depend on documents or actions from the employer, sponsor or authorised representative.
Appointments and operational factors
Medical, biometric or service-centre appointment availability can affect the total time even when the underlying government service has a published completion duration.
Public holidays and exceptional cases
Processing can take longer where additional verification or operational disruption affects the specific application.
What “express” or VIP processing really means
Private typing, immigration-service or medical providers may advertise expedited assistance. That does not create a universal government guarantee that the complete visa will be approved in 24 hours or 48 hours.
Visa-tracking checklist
- Keep the application number, transaction number or other reference shown on the application receipt.
- Use ICP for the federal services that fall under ICP jurisdiction.
- Use GDRFA Dubai for Dubai immigration cases.
- Check the exact service name before interpreting a status result.
- Do not assume that “in process” means the application has failed; it can simply mean the service has not completed.
- Do not assume a published completion time is a legal guarantee or a guaranteed end-to-end timeline.
- If the application exceeds the published service duration, use the authority’s official enquiry/support channel and quote the application reference.
