UAE Student Residence Visa Guide
A practical 2026 guide to UAE student residence sponsorship, programme-based validity, renewal, Emirates ID, medical fitness, health insurance, grace periods and Golden Residence options.
Residence rules and fees can differ between ICP federal services, GDRFA Dubai and the sponsorship route used by the student.
UAE Student Residence Framework
The UAE Government states that an international student can study in the UAE under the sponsorship of a UAE-resident parent or under the sponsorship of an accredited university or college. The institution can facilitate the visa process for university- sponsored students.
ICP's current residence service states that the residence duration is determined by the student's study programme. This means a blanket “one-year student visa” statement is not suitable for a general UAE page.
Outstanding students have a separate Golden Residence pathway, with 5-year residence for qualifying high-school students and 10-year residence for qualifying university students.

What the Original Page Got Wrong
- No universal AED 3,000–8,000 annual UAE student-visa fee exists.
- Student residence is not universally valid for only one year.
- The exact medical tests should not be hard-coded as HIV/Hepatitis/TB/Syphilis for every student.
- A 60-day student entry permit should not be presented as universal across UAE authorities and situations.
- Golden Residence criteria differ between high-school, UAE-university and foreign-university applicants.
- A student residence visa alone does not give unrestricted permission to work.
Current Dubai Student Residence Fees — Official Service Example
GDRFA Dubai publishes a specific student-residence service fee structure. These figures should not be turned into a universal “UAE annual student visa cost” because other authorities, sponsorship arrangements, insurance and institutional charges can differ.

GDRFA states that the total can vary according to the circumstances of the sponsored person and that the issuance fee increases by AED 100 annually where the residency exceeds two years.
Residence Issuance Process
Important ICP Timing Rule
This should not be confused with a universal “student entry permit is valid for exactly 60 days” rule. The entry permit, residence-issuance deadline and specific authority service are separate concepts.
Always check the actual entry record and permit in ICP or GDRFA before the student remains in the UAE beyond the permitted period.
Renewal, Grace Period & Cancellation

Emirates ID for UAE Students
- Emirates ID is linked to the resident's UAE residence status.
- Students must provide proof of admission or ongoing study for the applicable Emirates ID process.
- ICP states that persons aged 15 and above must complete fingerprint and signature procedures at the relevant service centre.
Current ICP resident ID fees
ICP currently lists AED 100 per year of residence for the resident Emirates ID plus a AED 100 smart-service fee, with other service options/fees potentially applicable.
Do not bundle this into a single “student visa fee”; Emirates ID is a separate identity service.
Students and Part-Time Work
MoHRE currently has a Student Training and Employment Permit for students who have reached 15 years of age and a separate Part-Time Work Permit for workers aged 18 or older. The applicable permit depends on the student's age and actual work or training arrangement.
