The current UAE family sponsorship rule
The current federal immigration framework allows a foreign resident with a valid UAE residence permit to sponsor qualifying family members subject to the applicable conditions. The official ICP service currently identifies the spouse, unmarried daughters, sons under 25, and children with special needs as qualifying family categories for the standard family residence route.
The same ICP service currently states that the sponsor must demonstrate financial solvency with monthly income of at least AED 3,000 plus employer-provided housing or AED 4,000 if housing is not provided. It also requires adequate accommodation and proof of kinship.
Who can normally be sponsored?
Spouse
The standard family-residence route covers the sponsor's spouse, subject to proof of the relationship and the remaining immigration requirements.
Children
ICP currently states that sons under 25, unmarried daughters and children with special needs can fall within the family-residence framework.
Children with special needs
ICP expressly identifies children with special needs as a category that may be sponsored regardless of age, subject to the supporting documentation required by the service.
Parents and other relatives
Parent and other-relative sponsorship can follow separate routes and should not be treated as identical to the standard spouse-and-children salary rule.
Male and female residents can sponsor family members
Older online guides often repeat historical profession-based rules for women. Current official guidance is different. GDRFA Dubai currently states that both male and female foreign residents are allowed to bring qualifying family members, including a husband and children under 25. The federal ICP service also describes the family sponsor generally rather than imposing the old profession-based restriction found in outdated material.
The important qualification is that gender alone does not guarantee approval: the sponsor still has to meet the applicable residence, financial, housing, relationship and documentary requirements.

ICP's current service wording is the primary basis for the general federal age table above. Dubai GDRFA also publishes humanitarian procedures for certain children aged 25 and above, so a specific exception should be checked with the authority handling the application rather than assumed from the standard rule.
Housing and tenancy proof
Accommodation is not an optional extra. ICP currently requires adequate housing for family members in proportion to the property's capacity, whether the property is owned or rented. The federal service therefore does not support the simplistic claim that one specific tenancy-registration system is automatically mandatory throughout the UAE.
The exact evidence depends on the emirate and route. For example, current GDRFA Dubai family-visa guidance requires an attested tenancy contract and related housing evidence.
Practical rule
Prepare the housing document accepted by the authority processing your residence file. Do not assume that an Ejari, Tawtheeq or another local registration record is a universal UAE requirement for every sponsor and every residence category.
Sponsoring parents: an important Dubai-specific distinction
The parent rules should be separated from the standard spouse and children calculation. Current GDRFA Dubai guidance places parent sponsorship under its humanitarian-case residence service.

Identity documents
Passport copies and photographs for the sponsor and sponsored family member are part of the current service documentation.
Proof of relationship
Current ICP guidance identifies an attested marriage contract for a spouse and birth certificates for children, with proof of kinship for parents.
Income and accommodation
An employment or income document and evidence of suitable accommodation are normally central to the assessment.
Medical and insurance
ICP lists valid health insurance among the required documents and requires medical-fitness documentation where applicable, including for sponsored adults over 18.

Pay the applicable fees, complete medical and identity requirements where applicable, and follow the issuing authority's instructions for final residence issuance.
