Foreign Passport Renewal Directory 2026

UAE Expat Passport Renewal & Embassy Directory

Current guidance for foreign residents renewing home-country passports in the UAE, followed by the separate UAE immigration process for updating residence records after the passport changes.

Passport renewal is handled by your own country’s diplomatic mission or designated provider. ICP/GDRFA handles the UAE residence-record side.

The directory currently covers India, Pakistan and the Philippines. Each country controls its own passport rules, so information must be verified from that country's current UAE mission.

After receiving the new passport: UAE immigration record update

Passport renewal by your home-country authority does not automatically update the passport number stored in the UAE residence record. The UAE provides separate data-amendment services.

Do you need a new residence visa?

Normally, a passport renewal is not the same thing as changing or renewing the UAE residence itself. The immigration authority provides data-amendment services specifically for residence records.

Passport expiry planning

TimingRecommended action
6+ months before expiryIdeal planning point for checking passport-renewal rules, appointment availability and international travel plans.
3–6 monthsStart the renewal process where your nationality allows it, especially if you have planned travel.
Less than 1 monthDo not assume ordinary service will be completed before your travel. Check urgent/emergency options with your mission.
Passport already expiredContact the diplomatic mission immediately and ask about renewal, replacement or an emergency travel document.

Can you travel while your passport is being renewed?

In ordinary circumstances, international travel requires possession of a valid passport or another accepted travel document. If your only passport is physically submitted for renewal, you may therefore be unable to make normal international travel arrangements until it is returned.

SituationPractical treatment
Original passport with embassy/providerNormal international travel may not be possible because you do not have your valid travel document.
Emergency travel requiredAsk your embassy/consulate whether an emergency travel document or temporary travel document is available.
Passport returnedConfirm the new passport details are correctly recorded in the UAE immigration system before future travel where an update is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

A UAE resident renews their foreign passport through the passport authority of their own country, usually through its embassy, consulate or an officially appointed outsourced application centre. The exact forms, documents, fees, appointment system and processing time depend on the nationality and passport type. After receiving the new passport, the resident should update the UAE immigration record where required through ICP or GDRFA Dubai.

The UAE immigration update is separate from the foreign-passport renewal. For federal jurisdictions, ICP provides a Residence Permit Data Amendment service. For Dubai residence records, GDRFA Dubai provides a current “Amendment of all types of residence permit data” service. The applicant normally needs the new passport and other documents required by the applicable service. The fee depends on the authority and transaction route, so a universal AED 100–150 figure should not be used.

The current UAE residence law requires foreigners to notify the competent authority of changes to entry, residence and work data according to the applicable procedures and periods. The law does not justify publishing a universal “30 days after every passport renewal” rule on this page. Residents should update the immigration record promptly using the current ICP or GDRFA service applicable to their residence.

An expired passport is not a normal valid travel document, so international travel can become impossible until a valid passport or other accepted travel document is obtained. Immigration transactions can also require a valid passport; for example, GDRFA Dubai’s current residence-data amendment service requires a passport valid for more than six months. Residents should start renewal well before expiry rather than waiting until the final weeks.

The Embassy of India announced that BLS International and SGIVS Global remained the outsourced providers only until 30 June 2026. From 1 July 2026, Al Hind Tours and Travels LLC became the new outsourced service provider for Indian passport, visa and consular applications in the UAE. Applicants submitting new applications from the effective date should use the designated Al Hind centres and the current Indian mission instructions. The old BLS-based workflow on this page is therefore not current.

Ordinary international travel normally requires possession of a valid travel document, so surrendering your only passport for renewal can prevent normal travel until the passport is returned. However, emergency travel documents and nationality-specific arrangements can differ. Do not assume an absolute “no travel under any circumstances” rule; confirm your country’s emergency-document options before making travel plans.
