The fee changes took effect on March 31, 2026. For online or in-person applications, the fee is based on the day the application is submitted. For mailed applications, it is based on the date the Government of Canada receives the application.

What proof can support urgent or express service?
The Government of Canada does not require one particular type of travel ticket. Proof that you need the passport can include:
- An airline, bus or train ticket.
- A travel itinerary showing proof of payment.
- Proof of illness or death in the family requiring travel.
- A written statement explaining why you need the passport, such as a legal, banking or residency requirement.
- If travelling by car, a written statement explaining why you need to travel.
