How School Immunization Rules Actually Work
School vaccine requirements are primarily state-law requirements, not one nationwide CDC checklist. The required vaccines, number of doses, minimum ages and intervals, exemptions, acceptable evidence of immunity and provisional-enrollment rules can vary by state and grade.
Why This Checker Is Only a Preliminary Screen
A dose count alone cannot determine final compliance. Some states allow fewer doses when the final dose was given after a particular birthday, accept serologic evidence of immunity, recognize documented prior disease, or impose additional grade-specific requirements. A final determination should therefore use the child's age, grade and complete dated immunization record.
Foreign Records
Families moving to the United States should bring the original vaccination record and any available medical documentation. Do not assume a certified translation or U.S. physician transcription is mandatory everywhere. The receiving school, state registry or health department determines how the foreign record must be validated.
Catch-Up Vaccination
CDC catch-up guidance provides minimum intervals for children who start late or fall behind. Vaccine series generally do not need to be restarted because of long gaps, but the state school requirement and the child's age must still be checked.
