Expat Renter Credit Workarounds

Use these documents to satisfy landlords without a Canadian credit file:

  • Letter of Employment & Salary proofShow a signed contract or letter showing your annual salary, startup budget, or job offer details.
  • Canadian Bank Statement (High Balance)Show a bank balance proving you have 6–12 months of living expenses saved in cash reserves in Canada.
  • Foreign Credit Report (Equifax / TransUnion / Experian)Print a copy of your credit score from your home country (India, US, UK) to prove you have a good repayment history.
  • Local Guarantor LetterA resident Canadian relative or friend signing a covenant agreeing to pay rent if you default.
