Urgent PR Card Renewal Guide
How to fast-track your PR card renewal if you have immediate international travel plans.
⚠️ High Volume PR Backlogs:
Standard PR card renewals can take up to 2-3 months. IRCC will **only** process an application urgently if you meet strict portability rules. Misleading officers about urgency can result in application delays.

Required Documents for Urgent Renewal
You must include the following supporting evidence in your submission to prevent application return:
- Proof of Travel Payment: Receipts showing the payment date, ticket numbers, and cost. It must show travel originating in Canada.
- Employment Proof: A signed letter from your employer on corporate letterhead explaining the travel necessity and dates, if traveling for business.
- Alternative - Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD): If you must leave Canada before receiving your PR card, you **cannot** return by commercial vehicle (plane, bus) without it. You must apply for a PRTD at a Canadian visa office overseas to return.
