Complete these setup steps to ensure your benefits are deposited correctly by the CRA:
- Obtain a Social Insurance Number (SIN)Your SIN must be registered with Service Canada to log into CRA and establish eligibility.
- Set Up CRA Direct DepositLink your Canadian bank account in your CRA "My Account" portal to avoid paper check mail delays.
- File Annual Income TaxesYou and your spouse must file annual tax returns. The CRA calculates CCB rates every July based on the previous year's tax returns.
- Child Birth CertificatesProvide birth certificates listing parent details. For kids born outside Canada, provide their PR card or visa proof.
- Proof of Status (Work/Study Permit)Temporary residents must upload scans of their permits proving they have resided in Canada for 18 consecutive months.
Provincial Top-Ups
Provinces offer additional benefits calculated automatically alongside the CCB:
- Ontario: Ontario Child Benefit (OCB) offers up to $1,680/yr per child.
- BC: BC Family Benefit offers up to $1,750/yr for the first child.
- Alberta: Alberta Child and Family Benefit (ACFB).
