Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), you are protected against abusive collection agencies. Debt collectors cannot call you before 8 AM or after 9 PM, call you at work if you tell them not to, or use threat of arrest. You can also dispute errors on credit cards under the Fair Credit Billing Act.

Actionable Requirements & Steps

Credit Card Billing Disputes

Write to your credit card issuer within 60 days of the statement containing the error. While under review, the issuer cannot report you as late or charge interest on the disputed amount.

Annual Free Credit Report

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you can pull a free credit report once a year from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion via AnnualCreditReport.com.

Immigration Warning

Immigration guidelines (USCIS) are federal. Local labor disputes or civil litigation do not authorize work without a valid EAD or approved petition. Always protect your non-immigrant status.
